Vikki Michalski
Vikki Michalski is an honor's graduate of Ohio University where she received her bachelor's degree in journalism and her master's degree in communications. She joined American Electric Power's corporate communications department in early 1997 after nearly 18 years as a newspaper editor, newsroom manager and reporter. In her current position, she is responsible for internal and external communications, and media relations for AEP Ohio and its matrix organizations, including distribution, transmission and power generation. Michalski joined WiNUP in 1997 while attending the international conference, hosted by the Ohio Chapter in Columbus. Since then, she has served as chapter chair, vice chair, international rep and member of the international board of directors, co-chair of the 2005 international conference, program and planning committee chair and member; member of hospitality committee; publicity chair, newsletter committee chair and member, and newsletter editor and contributing writer. Currently, she is serving a two-year term on the international board of directors. From 1997 to 2002, Michalski was a member, Ohio chapter officer, national rep and national vice president of Women In Mining, an organization dedicated to educating the public about all aspects of mining. In 2001, she was the recipient of WIM National's Distinguished Service Award. WIM-Ohio dissolved in 2002 as a result of the devastating loss of membership due to continuing business closures and declines in the coal mining industry in Ohio. During her newspaper career, she was the recipient of several writing and newspaper design awards from the Associated Press. She also was recognized by the Ohio State Bar Association for reporting on the legal system and feature writing series about the development of the U.S. Constitution. She also was recognized by the Ohio House of Representatives for her Constitution series.
